This is a high-quality stereo recording of the ambient noises on a balcony in beatenberg, switzerland. This recording was made in the morning. There are birds and insects, and wind. You can also hear the very faint and distant sound of the traffic from the street in the valley.

For a podcast project i needed some coffee related sounds so i recorded our techni-vorm moccamaster, filter coffee machine as it brewed a full pot. Our version has a metallic thermos jug rather than the standard glass jug. This recording was made using a sound devices mixpre6ii and a stereo pair of fel em172 mics. Low cut on the sd which in basic mode is 80hz (i think). There is no processing to this recording other than to ‘normalize’ the levels. I do not require any credit or attribution. Zoom h1n recording from this morning's rainstorm in metro detroit. The original recording was from 5:02am to 7:26am, but due to a lot of secondary rain drops splashes hitting the recorder directly when the wind would shift i edited it down to 52 minutes after taking most of the knocks outs when i edited in movavi. Pretty steady rain for most of the track as you hear the hum from the morning commuters in their cars increase in the distant background. You'll hear some birds too throughout the track, mostly starlings i believe.

Short 7 second clip from a 120 minute recording on palm sunday in the city of warren, mi. This clip takes place about 30 minutes before sunrise, bird next to my recording chirps then flies off in-between condo buildings.

When the air is dry and hot, insects (that i believe are cicadas) chirp loudly from every direction while being too small for anyone to spot. Their sound, to me, is a sign and reminder of the hot, dry air of australian summer.

Converted to mp3 with command “lame --preset extreme” since it’s rather huge. Not normalized; lame reports a playback gain of +21 db.

If you have a recording device on your person, you get a lot of stuff you'd otherwise miss altogether. This rig helps me get those things too ephemeral to capture with a stereo pair; sounds i would regret not having at all. I keep it on my belt 90% of the time. Just in case.
